Session 202: Lean In: Archival Management and the Gender Dynamics of Leadership

Continuing my focus on leadership, I went to the Lean In session after lunch. My big take-away from this panel was the importance of being an advocate for yourself.

I’m interested in understanding more about the leadership gap in our profession and found Lisa Haralampus’s comment really informative. She emphasized the importance of planning and considering next levels (plural) in one’s career as a way to close that gap.

I also found Beth Myers’s statement about developing her career within the framework of a vocation, and how that mindfulness has guided her career, an interesting conversation and topic to consider.

Additional take-aways from this session included the idea of being civil, as opposed to being polite that Myers underscored. Anke Voss called our attention to the importance of seeking out the best experiences we can, to more fully engage, or “lean in.”

How do you imagine we can close the leadership gap in our field???
