Vintage Valentines at Mount Holyoke College

This past week I had the opportunity to learn about Esther Howland, an 1847 Mount Holyoke College alumna, who is credited with starting the American Valentine card industry. The Mount Holyoke College Archives & Special Collections, where I’m working as the Digital Collections intern, has a large Valentine collection, including 3 created by Howland.

As a part of the archive’s outreach efforts in collaboration with the College’s Communication’s Office, I shared a small part of this collection, which will be on display in the archives until February 21, 2011.

Enjoy!
